How the Routine Builder Works
- Start with three simple basics or add products you already own, plus their label notes.
- Choose morning, night, and weekdays for each product, then note your skin feel, sensitivity, and fragrance preferences.
- Review your weekly plan in a clear order, then copy it, download a text file, or print the week.
A Beginner Skincare Routine Can Stay Simple
Most routines rest on three habits: cleanse, moisturize, and protect your skin from the sun. You don't need a shelf of costly products, and using too many can irritate skin.
So the default plan uses plain placeholders: a basic cleanser, moisturizer, and morning sunscreen, with no actives. Swap in your own products, edit or delete steps, and keep what fits your days.
Skincare Routine Order for Morning and Night
A common general order is cleanse, then any serum or treatment you've chosen, then moisturizer. In the morning, sunscreen comes next as its own step, before makeup. So serum usually goes before moisturizer.
Still, there's no single rule for every serum or wait time. Product labels and prescription directions come first. If the builder can't place an item, it marks it so you can check the label.

Trying a New Product
Flag a product as new, and the builder will point out when several new products land in the same routine. Adding one at a time keeps changes easier to track.
You can also try a home use test: apply the product to a small area twice a day for 7 to 10 days, following its directions. It isn't diagnostic allergy testing and can't rule out a reaction.

What This Planner Does and Doesn't Do
This free planner organizes everyday adult cosmetic routines. It doesn't diagnose acne or skin barrier problems, call ingredient combinations safe or unsafe, or certify allergy or pregnancy safety.
You decide how often to use each product, following its label or your clinician. The builder doesn't tailor retinoids or prescription treatments, so ask your prescriber before changing a prescribed routine.

Questions about your routine
Is this skincare routine builder free, and is it a quiz?
Yes, it's free, with no purchase, signup, email, or photos. It isn't a scored quiz or photo analysis; you describe how your skin feels, including Not sure, and choose your products.
What's a simple beginner routine on a small budget?
Start with the basics: cleanse, moisturize, and wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher by day. A long, costly routine isn't necessary, and too many products can irritate skin.
Can I build my skincare routine with my own products?
Yes. Add each product, choose morning, night, or both, and note its label directions. The builder puts everything in order and marks anything it can't place so you can check the label.
AAD: Should I apply my skin care products in a certain order?
How do I plan products I don't use every day?
Pick weekdays for each product. The builder points out routines with many leave-on or new products, so you can spread them out. You set frequency from each label or your clinician's advice.

What's the best way to start a new product?
Start one at a time and follow its directions. A small-area home use test for 7 to 10 days is one option, but it can't guarantee you won't react. Don't push through burning.

Can I use vitamin C and copper peptides together?
The builder has not verified compatibility for every formulation. Follow the exact product directions and ask the manufacturer or a clinician if you are unsure. A rinse-off vitamin C cleanser differs from a leave-on serum, and the vitamin C form matters. Product names alone cannot settle the question.
Can I avoid fragrance or essential oils?
Set your fragrance preference, then check each product's current ingredient list for fragrance and essential oils. Fragrance-free or hypoallergenic labels don't guarantee you won't have an allergic reaction, and the builder can't confirm allergy safety.
Can I use this routine while pregnant?
The builder can't confirm pregnancy safety. Retinoids should be avoided during pregnancy, and retinol-free doesn't mean a product is pregnancy safe. Ask your clinician which skin care is right for you.
My products pill. How long should I wait between layers?
There's no fixed wait time for every product. Follow each label, use small amounts, and let a layer absorb when its directions say to.

When should I stop a product or get help?
Stop the suspect cosmetic if you develop an unexpected rash, burning, or redness, and contact a healthcare provider. Ask your prescriber before changing a prescribed treatment. Get help for acne that is deep, painful, scarring, not improving with self-care, showing infection signs, or affecting your mental health.
Do I still need sunscreen with a vitamin C serum?
Yes. Our Brightening Vitamin C Serum isn't a sunscreen and doesn't add SPF. Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher each morning and reapply as directed. The builder flags routines without one.
Can I save my routine or print it as a PDF?
Copy it, download a text file, or print your week; your browser's print options may let you save a PDF. Choose Remember this plan on this device to save both lists and preferences in this browser. Delete saved copy removes that stored copy.
